Box-office king meets popstar princess
“Its about a girl who’s a dreamer, who wants to be more than what she is now. Simple, ordinary must like all of us. And a guy who is there at the top, mayaman, gwapo, may sariling business, wala nang hahanapin pa. so how do they fall in love, paano ‘pag nagkita sila?
Matatanggap ng viewers si Sarah because she’s very lo-vable, both onscreen and as a person.
Pressured at the same time, masaya naman si Sarah dahil sa una niyang pelikula.
Direk Cathy naman, as always, she did a great job with us, I think. Kaya naman wala akong mahihiling pa for this project.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz at 25: On top of the world
ON TOP OF THE WORLD – At 25 (last June 24), JOHN LLOYD Cruz is on top of the world. Box-office king and best actor for ‘One More Chance’ (the Golden Screen Awards for the Entertainment Press Society). And he’s got another potential winner coming up, Star Cinema’s ‘A Very Special Love,’ opposite Sarah Geronimo in her first starring role.
Cathy Garcia-Molina directs ‘A Very Special Love,’ who’s also behind ‘One More Chance’ with Bea Alonzo as Lloydie’s love interest.
•
VERY REAL – Love? Lloydie’s relationship with magazine editor Liz Uy is still going strong. Which he describes as stable since both of them are of age, secure with their careers.
One thing with Lloydie, he’s very real. He doesn’t play along, in a manner of speaking, to promote a loveteam. For example, he refuses to engage in romantic gimmicks to excite the fans. While professing admiration for Bea, Lloydie made clear there was no offcam love affair between them. Then he was already dating Liz, while Bea was going steady with now ex-love Mico Palanca.
During his younger years, Lloydie’s sweethearts included Ciara Sotto, Kaye Abad, and much more older non-showbiz girl.
Of course, Lloydie nixes any romantic speculations in ‘A Very Special Love.’ Sarah herself says that at 19 going on 20 she isn’t ready to fall in love. She’s the family breadwinner.
•
LIGHT BUT – Direk Cathy says that ‘A Very Special Love’ is light, about two people coming from opposite social circles. Sarah (Laida) is simple, poor, breadwinner, working in a publishing firm owned and managed by the yuppie Lloydie (Miggy). But the lady director explains she digs deeper into the psyche of her characters.
The movie asks: When you give love, do you expect something in return? How do opposites fall in love? What are their dynamics?
Direk Cathy says Sarah fits the Laida role to a T. And Lloydie? He’s equal to any role, including the hateful (at first) and lovable (later) Miggy.
Lloydie is her favorite actor, no ifs and buts about it. And the one she’d rather not work with? Richard Gomez. Seems that Cathy had unpleasant encounters with Goma when she was an assistant director. Perhaps the feeling is mutual.
•
CO-WINNERS – At the Enpress Awards night, JOHN LLOYD Cruz shares the limelight with co-actors Jinggoy Estrada (best comedy actor), Lorna Tolentino (comedy actress), Cherry Pie Picache (drama actress), Eugene Domingo (supporting actress), and Ricky Davao who was not around (supporting actor).
Best comedy film was ‘Katas ng Saudi’ and best drama film, ‘Pisay,’ which went home with the most awards, including best director for Aureaus Solito.
Moment supreme of the night was the tribute to Rudy Fernandez, with Jinggoy, Phillip, and Bong singing a song for Daboy. Boyet de Leon was Lino Brocka awardee, with Tirso Cruz III singing and Caridad Sanchez reading the citation.

MANILA BULLETIN
A special tandem
It’s official: Sarah Geronimo is now a certified leading lady to award-winning actor, JOHN LLOYD Cruz.
They are teamed up in the soon-to-be released special movie, "A Very Special Love," directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and produced by Star Cinema.
"I’m glad Loydie (JOHN LLOYD’s pet name) agreed to play my leading man in this movie," Sarah said. "He is my dream leading man. Kaso nga, diba masyado siyang identified with Bea (Alonzo)?
"Lately, this has, of course, been ironed out," Sarah added. They also promised to support "A Very Special Love."
"A Very Special Love" is about two young people with totally different background. In the end, however, they realized that love truly knows no barrier.
Sarah plays Laida, who is her family’s breadwinner. JOHN LLOYD, as Miggy, belongs to the Montenegro clan, who owns several businesses, including a publishing firm which Miggy manages.
Laida joins one to the magazines, Bachelor, which Miggy publishes, as editorial assistant. But Miggy made her an all around girl, which include playing proxy to his girlfriend when he cannot make it to his date with her.
In no time, Laida’s dedication to his work and the special attention she was giving Miggy caught the attention of her co-workers. She became the butt of jokes, if not gossips, among her fellow employees.
To save face, Laida shared with her officemates some secret, which she knew about Miggy. When this got to Miggy, he, naturally, got mad at her.
The bashing from Miggy didn’t only allow Laida to come to her senses. She started enumerating to Miggy his numerous faults. That he was not just snobbish but a baggart as well.
Realizing his mistakes, Miggy apologizes to Laida and decide to change.
In no time, they became a team player and eventually a deeper relationship developed between them.
A most special love message from the movie, "Never give up. Specially where your lovelife is concerned. Kapag gusto mo ang isang tao, go for him or her. For all you know, he or she is just waiting for you to make the first move."
"A Very Special Love" also stars Gio Alvarez, Matet de Leon, Joross Gamboa, Al Tantay, Irma Adlawan, Bernard Palanca and Miles Hernandez.

from pep.ph www.pep.ph/guide/2185/John-Lloyd-says-his-new-leading-lady-Sarah-is-very-lovableJOHN LLOYD says his new leading lady Sarah is very lovable Remedios Lucio Friday, July 4, 2008 Sarah Geronimo and JOHN LLOYD Cruz topbill the romantic comedy A Very Special Love as part of Star Cinema's 15th anniversary presentation. It is directed by 2007 Box Office Director Cathy Garcia-Molina, who was also the brains behind the blockbuster movies One More Chance (2007) and You Are the One (2006). At nineteen years old, Sarah has yet to experience true love. This prompted some reporters to ask if this hindered the singer-actress from effectively portraying the role of a love-struck girl. Direk Cathy said Sarah didn't need a lot of preparation even though she hasn't experienced being in love. Siguro talagang may charisma ‘tong taong ito," observed the female director who was recently honored by the Philippine Movie Press Club as Movie Director of the Year for One More Chance. JOHN LLOYD believes viewers will like Sarah because she is very lovable. A lot of people have been curious about the supposed kissing scene between the two stars. If this happens, it will be Sarah's first kissing scene onscreen. She said that she is not yet ready but JOHN LLOYD said he would be lucky if this happens because he will be part of a milestone in her career. On the other hand, Sarah's mom and JOHN LLOYD's dad were both supportive although wary of having kissing scenes in the movie. In fact, Direk Cathy told the press: "Hindi pa namin nasu-shoot yung kissing scene pero di ako sigurado kung magkakaroon nga." In A Very Special Love, JOHN LLOYD plays Miggy. Direk Cathy describes his character as "a guy who is there at the top, mayaman, gwapo, may sariling business, wala ng hahanapin pa." Sarah, on the other hand plays Laida—"a dreamer who wants to be more than what she is now." The movie brings together these two characters amidst their major differences and creates a dynamic love story. JOHN LLOYD is a seasoned actor in local cinema while Sarah is trying her hand at acting in her first movie. But with Direk Cathy at the helm and with JOHN LLOYD's guidance, the pop singer is confident about shooting dramatic scenes for the movie. "Siguro actions speak louder than words. So good luck sa akin dun. Aalalayan naman ako ni Direk at ni JOHN LLOYD," said the ASAP ‘08 mainstay. Prior to A Very Special Love, they were able to act together in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK). Sarah considered this TV project as a very memorable project for her. Mahirap kasi siyempre special po ako nung time na yun kasi first time kong mag-MMK at makatrabaho ang isang JOHN LLOYD Cruz kaya doble-doble ang pressure ko." Despite all her achievements in the past, Direk Cathy doesn't feel too much pressure in making this movie a hit. Ang mas challenge sa amin nila Tita Malou [Santos, head of Star Cinema] is to make the film good at better at magugustuhan ng manonood. Mas nandun talaga ang pressure ko kung kaya I keep up yung expectations ng mga manonood at ng management as far as the quality is concerned. A Very Special Love will be shown in cinemas nationwide starting July 30.

ABANTE TONITE Allan Diones Mga Kapuso at Kapamilya, sama-samang rarampa
ABANTE TONITE Rey Pumaloy
It’s something na pwedeng mangyari in an instant. “I’m happy with her. Kasi, walang masyadong pressures sa relasyon namin. Sobrang naniniwala kami sa pareho naming individuality. “Iyun bang huwag nating sayangin ‘yung opportunity natin, basta nandito lang tayo for each other,” sey pa ni JOHN LLOYD.

from PEP... www.pep.ph/guide/2207/John-Lloyd-and-Sarah-excited-about-their-movie-A-Very-Special-LovePEP Jocelyn Dimaculangan JOHN LLOYD and Sarah excited about their movie "A Very Special Love" [/b][/size][/color] The new combination of young stars JOHN LLOYD Cruz and Sarah Geronimo is coming to the big screen this July 30. A Very Special Love is part of Star Cinema's 15th anniversary presentation, along with Sharon Cuneta's Caregiver, which recently went on a series of international screenings for the past two months. This romantic comedy is megged by the 2007 Box Office Director Cathy Garcia-Molina. The female director excitedly recounts the first time the project was offered to her, which is a co-production with Viva Films. "Its about a girl who's a dreamer, who wants to be more than what she is now. Simple, ordinary just like all of us. And a guy who is there at the top, mayaman, gwapo, may sariling business, wala nang hahanapin pa. So how do they fall in love, paano ‘pag nagkita sila? Ano ang dynamics nila?" The movie has a very light material, but Cathy digs deeper into the psyche of his characters. After his successful team up with Bea Alonzo and Direk Cathy in One More Chance, JOHN LLOYD is both optimistic and nervous about his character Miggy. The male actor, who won the Best Actor Award in the recently concluded Golden Screen Awards of the Enpress, is very positive about his new leading lady. Sarah, who plays Laida in the film, is feeling the heat because this is her first starring movie. Direk Cathy says of her actors, "Si Sarah kasi we have known her to be I think a dramatic actress. It's a revelation to me, except for MMK [Maalala Mo Kaya] nagpakita siya ng lightness, napatunayan ko sa pelikulang ‘to grabe pala yang batang yan...magaan, kikay, madaling makatrabaho. Di ako nahirapan sa kanya." The female director admitted that she felt pressure in handling JOHN LLOYD since she knows that there will always be comparisons between A Very Special Love and One More Chance. Isa ako sa naniniwala na kung di siya ang pinakamagaling, he's one of the best and so it's a pressure for me and JOHN LLOYD also paano mame-maintain. "Ang hirap kay JOHN LLOYD, he portrays medyo similar characters, leading man e. Sinasabi ko lagi kay JOHN LLOYD, the test of a true actor is doing similar and ordinary roles differently every time. That's our task in this movie—how to make this ordinary character na napanood mo na rin sa iba from your other roles. And in fairness to him, JOHN LLOYD delivers, with glowing results," observes Direk Cathy. JOHN LLOYD and Sarah are both looking forward to the reactions of their respective fans to their first collaboration. Direk Cathy naman, as always, she did a great job with us. Kaya naman wala akong mahihiling pa for this project. A Very Special Love opens in theaters nationwide on July 30, 2008.

ABANTE JULY 10
“When we did Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), Sarah was reserved in answering questions. You ask her something and she answers in monosyllables.
That’s it. Now, things are so different. I got surprised. Sarah has shed her inhibitions. We didn’t have to adjust too much on the set of A Very Special Love,” sabi naman ni JOHN LLOYD.
