NAPAKA-RARE for any artista ang ma­katanggap ng sunud-sunod na Box-Office King award. Ika-3rd year na niya ngayon na pinaparanga­lang Box-Office King.


Wala ngang palya si JOHN LLOYD Cruz sa awards na `yon, na nataong kasabay pa sa birthday month niya.


Happy sa career at happy rin sa lovelife, parang wala na nga siyang mahihiling pa. At anytime soon, posibleng mag-pilot na ang bago niyang primetime series with Angel Locsin, ang Imortal at sa November naman posibleng ipalabas ang 3rd installment ng movie nila ni Sarah Geronimo under Star Cinema.


So, ‘pag nagkataon, ‘di kaya, another pang-fourth Box-Office King award na naman ang maibigay noon kay JOHN LLOYD?


Wala nga pala si Sa­rah sa awarding ng Box-Office King & Queen, kaya hindi niya personal na natatanggap ang trophy sa ikalawang pagkakataon bilang Box-Office Queen. Nasa Amerika nga si Sarah for her series of concert tour.


Anyway, hindi naman ito nakalimutang pasala­matan din ni JOHN LLOYD sa kanyang speech. At ewan kung hindi lang ba namin narinig, pero, parang hindi namin nari­nig na nabanggit niya ang present girlfriend na si Shaina Magdayao kung ino-offer ba niya ang award dito.


Dahil umamin na nga si JOHN LLOYD sa totoong estado ng relasyon nila ni Shaina, may nagtanong sa actor kung hindi raw ba ito nasaktan during the time na tila may nagsa­sabing namangka siya sa dalawang-ilog habang sila na pala ni Shaina.


“Actually parang hindi ko naman narinig ‘yun. The exact term. Pero siyempre, kailangan mong intindihin, unawain na hindi naman lahat ng tao, alam ang totoong nangyayari.


“Sa ibang tao, mas madaling magbigay ng judgment. Mag-create ng story at haka-haka at doon ibase ang kanilang sasa­bihin. Noong pumasok ako sa industry na ito, si­yempre, hindi naman lahat mauunawaan. Pero sa tinagal ko na rin sa industry, naintindihan ko na ‘yun ang nature ng pinasok ko.”


Kaya raw wala raw siyang sama ng loob or galit kung may nagpaparatang man sa kanya ng ganoon.


“I don’t take it against them. Ang sa akin lang, naiintindihan ko but kung meron man akong mahihiling para sa kanila, sabi ko nga sa interview, madaling magpasa ng isang report, madaling magsulat ng isang istorya kahit hindi mo alam ang pinakabasehan kasi nga sa work natin. Pero sa case ko, it’s ea­sier to deal sa mga ganyang panghuhusga. Hindi ko naman ka­yang humarap sa lahat ng tao all the time.”


Nagpasalamat daw si Shaina sa kanya after niyang umamin.


“Hindi naman niya kailangang magpasalamat. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, ginawa ko lang din kung ano ang dapat. Sinabi ko naman ‘yun before, kumbaga, just give me time and ‘yung proper timing talaga.”


Ka-birthday ni JOHN LLOYD ngayong June ang na-link din nga sa kanya before na si Ruffa Gutierrez. Kaya tinanong namin ito kung may wish ba siya for Ruffa?


“Hopefully magkausap kami. Ang alam ko kasi, kasama ko kanina si Mika Lagdameo, our good friend and nasabi niya sa akin, aalis daw sila, pupunta sila ng Hong Kong at doon siya magse-celebrate.


“I’m sure magi-enjoy siya. Alam ko naman na okey siya. Masaya siya ngayon. I can only wish her all the happiness, all the joy in the world kapag birthday ng isang tao,” sabi na lang ni JOHN LLOYD.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz says fame is not his motivation

JOHN LLOYD Cruz said that his most recent birthday is different because unlike the previous ones, where he was granted a vacation leave, he needed to work during his birthday week. However, he is not complaining because he knows that he is fortunate to have so many projects. The dramatic actor is now working on his upcoming teleserye with Angel Locsin, Imortal.

He also considers getting the Box Office King Award for the third straight year from the Guillermo Mendoza Scholarship Award as a wonderful birthday gift. After his blockbuster movies with Sarah Geronimo, A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life, JOHN LLOYD revealed that the script of the second sequel is already in the works.

No doubt that LLOYDY is one of today’s most popular celebrities, and ABS-CBN.Com asked him if the idea of losing the fame in an instant scares him. He replied that he does not think of himself as “popular” in the first place. “Ang hirap nga, eh ‘pag kino-consider mo ‘yung konsepto o ang idea na I’m on top, parang wala ng ibang way kun ‘di pababa,” he said. “So ang sa akin kasi hindi ko naman siya ginagawang motivation. ‘Yung being popular, hypocrisy aside, alam naman na kilala tayo pero ako siguro manifestation lang ‘yon ng inner passion mo. ‘Yung inner drive mo. Manifestation lang ‘yon na pwede mong i-consider na bonus na mas nakikilala ka [pero] hindi ‘yun ang goal.”

LLOYDY also refused to comment about the issue that Piolo Pascual and Derek Ramsay are being pitted against each other as to who should be crowned as the universal leading man. “’Wag ako tanungin n’yo [kasi] hindi tayo pwedeng maging part ng jury na ise-select para kung sino magsabi kung sino nga ba ang universal leading man,” he said. “Wala tayong karapatan [na magsabi] kung sino ba talaga ang dapat.”

JOHN LLOYD Cruz says that being paired with Angel Locsin is worth the wait

JOHN LLOYD joked that if it were not for Luis Manzano, he and Angel Locsin would have made a great onscreen couple from the moment she became a Kapamilya almost three years ago. “Naalala ni’yo dati nung winelcome siya sa ASAP sa red carpet pa? Sinundo pa siya sa kotse, isa-isa kaming mga lalaki na nakapila. Napansin ko nun may chemistry na kami. Napansin ko na dati, kaya lang, wala, nabakuran ni Luis. Tapos ayun, sunod-sunod ang project nila ni Piolo (Pascual). So ayun, nag-antay na lang ako kasi siyempre good things come to those who wait,” he remarked in an interview during the cast pictorial of Imortal last July 8.

The multitalented actor was quick to clarify, however, that he has no hard feelings even though it took some time before he got the chance to work with Angel. “Hindi, biro lang naman yun. Siyempre kanya-kanyang ano ‘yan e. Ako na magsasalita kasi baka ma-misinterpret yung sinabi ko. Lahat naman ‘yan naka-plano. Ngayon, yung nangyari sa personal side ng buhay ni Angel sa ABS-CBN, wala tayong magagawa, wala tayong pakialam. Pero in terms of professional aspect, siyempre may kanya-kanyang timing ‘yan e.”

After three days of working closely together on the set of Imortal, JOHN LLOYD admitted that he’s still getting used to Angel as his new leading lady. But he doesn’t let that feeling of awkwardness affect his dramatic performance whenever they are taping. “Hindi siya hiya pero parang may konting ilang which I think is normal pa rin. Pero walang ganon ‘pag nasa harap na kami ng camera kasi siguro alam namin kung anong dapat namin gawin. Ang pinakahuling bagay na gusto naming maramdaman ng tao sa amin is pinahihirapan namin yung mga katrabaho namin. So hindinamin hahayaan yun,” he stressed.

When asked what he discovered about Angel off cam, JOHN LLOYD shared that she remained true to his first impression of her. “Ako lagi ko sinasabi ‘to, since day one, napansin ko na sobrang maalaga si Angel sa leading man niya. Kaya nga parang feeling ko ako yung leading lady. At sa tanong mo kung magwo-work ba yung team-up namin, as far as our chemistry is concerned, sa totoo lang hindi ako ang makakapagsabi niyan. Siguro hayaan natin makapagsabi niyan e yung mga makakapanood ng Imortal kapag naipalabas na siya sa TV,” he stated.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz says he’s ready to do action scenes for ‘Imortal’

Although JOHN LLOYD Cruz is keeping mum about the story of Imortal, there have been reports that he will be playing a vampire while Angel Locsin will play a werewolf just like her role in Lobo. But all he was willing to say is that he already started training for the action scenes that are needed for the show. “May ganong touch, pero sa akin naman kung anong kailangan sa eksena at storya wala namang problema. So kung makita mo ako na medyo may konting porma na action, walang problema, kayang-kaya,” he confidently said in an interview with ABS-CBN.com last July 8.

When asked if he’s ready to be an action star, the multitalented actor merely laughed since this will be his first time to be doing a fantaserye. “Ako yung mas nangangapa talaga kasi si Angel gamay na niya yung fantaserye na genre. First time ko talagang sasabak sa ganitong klaseng teleserye. Kaya nandun yung kaba and naninibago pa ako, hindi pa ako nasasanay. Pero yung level of excitement mataas kasi panibagong journey ito para sa akin.”

As a matter of fact, he had to take a break from his physical training since he recently got sick. “Hindi namin nakakasama si Angel pero kami nila Maricar Reyes at Jake Roxas, nag-aaral kami ng mixed martial arts. Pero yung last training namin nilagnat ako so stop muna siya.”

Given Angel’s fondness for action-packed soaps, many were wondering if she’s helping JOHN LLOYD in this aspect. But the young actress clarified that she’s not really in the position to teach him the skills that he needs to learn for Imortal. “Parang ang kapal naman ng mukha ko na may ituturo ako kay JOHN LLOYD. Kung si JOHN LLOYD ‘di siya nagdi-dictate sa akin ng dapat kong gawin, mas lalo akong walang karapatan sa galing umarte ng taong ito.”

JOHN LLOYD, in turn, maintained that he doesn’t need to share acting tips with Angel either because he knows that she has her own technique when it comes to doing her dramatic scenes. “I think wala ako sa lugar para magbigay ng kahit anong advice. Pero ang maganda kasi kay Angel, nirerespeto niya yung mga kaeksena niya and gagawin niya kung anong kailangan niyang gawin. So anything beyond that, hindi naman talaga necessary.”

JOHN LLOYD Cruz understands Sarah Geronimo's decision not to do their third movie together




JOHN LLOYD Cruz wouldn't insist if his two-time onscreen partner Sarah Geronimo decides not to do another sequel of their box-office movies A Very Special Love (2008) and You Changed My Life (2009).

In a separate interview, Sarah explained that their two movies had done so well in the box-office that she just wants to leave it at that. "Nakakatakot pang sundan," she said. (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

JOHN LLOYD, on the other hand, said that he would respect whatever Sarah decides.

"Well, siyempre, hindi naman natin gagawin ang isang bagay kung ang ibang involved sa project ay medyo hesitant na," said the three-time Box Office King at the press conference of his Cherry Mobile endorsement yesterday, July 17, at Annabel's restaurant on Tomas Morato Ave. in Quezon City.

He added, "Kung gano'n, isang bagay siya na dapat i-take into consideration. Kasi, naniniwala ako doon sa energy. Kung merong isang part ng isang project na hindi na naniniwala, then para sa akin, parang wala nang sense na ituloy pa. I totally respect that."

However, if the management still wants to do another JOHN LLOYD-Sarah film, the actor hopes that it will be a more "mature" project.

"Hopefully in the future, kung mabibigyan kami ng magandang materyal or project, sana kasabay ng kung paano nagma-mature ngayon ang Pinoy audience," said the 27-year-old actor. "Sana sumabay siya at hindi lang nakabase sa personal ang puwedeng maging success ng isang artista. Kumbaga, bigyan natin ng chance na makapag-offer sila ng isang bagay na out of their chosen craft or out of a good project or material para mag-improve lahat, di ba?"

JOHN LLOYD also wishes their fans will still be there to support them. "Siyempre, hindi natin binibili ang mga naitulong sa atin ng fans. Talagang without them, wala rin naman kami," he said.

WORKING WITH KIM CHIU. At the media conference, JOHN LLOYD welcomed Kim Chiu as his newest Cherry Mobile partner. Since they're both endorsing the brand already, the Kapamilya actor said it wouldn't be impossible to work with the 21-year-old actress in a future movie or television project.

"Sinasabi ko na sa kanya kanina dito, 'Puwede na tayong gumawa ng pelikula,'" he said.

JOHN LLOYD thinks that with good material, their team-up will click with the audience.

"Sa pelikula or sa script, hindi mo puwedeng sabihin kung sino ba ang bagay o hindi. Kapag na-create 'yan sa istorya, sa script, sa characterization, anything is possible. Mayroon nga May-December affair, what more ang edad namin na hindi naman gaanong magkalayo. With a good script, a good writer or a good storyteller, I don't think it's impossible for me and Kim na makagawa ng isang pelikula na puwedeng mag-work."

Right now, JOHN LLOYD is busy taping his upcoming teleserye with Angel Locsin titled Imortal. Kim just finished working on the recently concluded drama series Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. She will appear on a weekly TV series Maling Akala with comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas starting next Sunday, July 25, on ABS-CBN.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz was all praises for young actress Kim Chiu when he introduced her as his fellow endorser of Cherry Mobile at a press con last weekend. “I am very happy now dahil sa Cherry Mobile, meron na akong kasama para mag-embody ng isang napakagandang brand. At hindi lang basta kung sino man—isang certified Star Magic artist at teleserye princess, walang iba kundi si Kim.” He was certainly aware of the fact that Kim’s one of the hottest young stars of ABS-CBN today. “Totoo naman na she embodies the young and vibrant Filipina. And kung yun ang hanap mo para sa isang endorser, talagang wala ng ibang name ang magpa-pop up sa utak mo kundi si Kim,” he exclaimed.

Although they have their own TV projects at the moment, the multitalented actor stressed that there’s a big chance that he and Kim would be paired with each other in the future. “Sabi ko nga sa kanya, ‘Tingin ko, Kim, pwede tayong gumawa ng movie.’ Malay mo May-December affair ang theme? What more yung edad namin hindi naman gaanong nagkakalayo. Ilang taon na ba si Kim, 20? Tamang-tama 22 years old naman ako. Hahaha! Hindi, I am 27 now. But what I am saying is with a good script, I don’t think it’s impossible for me and Kim na makagawa ng isang pelikula or project na pwedeng mag-work.”

JOHN LLOYD further shared that he wouldn’t have a hard time working with Kim because he finds her very charming and fun to be with whenever he sees her in ASAP and various social gatherings. “Everytime nakikita ko si Kim talagang I find her really adorable. Para siyang nakakatuwa at ang sarap tignan, ang sarap makasama, and napaka-young at fresh ng personality niya.” He couldn’t help but joke that he almost feels like Gerald Anderson now that they’d be seeing more of each other as Cherry Mobile’s ambassadors. “Idol ko siya. Ganun ang peg ko kasi yun ang in ngayon,” he added with a laugh.

But speaking of his endorsement, JOHN LLOYD said that he was given a new phone as part of the deal. When asked if he would still add his ex-flame Ruffa Gutierrez to his list of contacts, the controversial actor stressed that he has nothing to worry about on that aspect. “It won’t be a problem. I can add her anytime as long as tama or tamang tao ang panggagalingan.” He was glad to hear though that she’s entertaining new suitors again. “Good for her. I mean ‘di ba? Alam mo para sa isang katulad niya, mahirap siyang mawalan or malibre sa mga manliligaw.”

So is it safe to say that he’s good friends with all the girls who were romantically linked to him? “Mahirap sabihin if you’re friends. Napaka-personal kasi nung term na yun. Hindi ko ‘yan masasabi sa lahat ng nakarelasyon ko. Pero ang pwede ko sabihin from my end, wala akong problema sa kahit na kanino sa kanila,” he stated.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz said that he is very happy now that his relationship with Shaina Magdayao is finally out in the open. For months, the couple had been very elusive to the press people’s questions about their “secret” relationship. “Okay naman kami, we’re okay we’re happy, we’re very much content kung anuman ‘yung ginagawa namin individually kumbaga okay… okay kami,” JOHN LLOYD said in an interview with The Buzz.

The actor did not deny the fact that he feels better now that he does not need to hide anything from anyone. “Mas magaan, mas madali, mas nakakahinga ka, very thankful na ‘yung kinailangan naming time ibinigay o nirespeto ng mga tao. Talagang everything is about timing. I’m happy, I’m very happy,” he said.

JOHN LLOYD also confirmed that he and Shaina officially became a couple on April 14, 2010 and they try to celebrate their monthsary if they have time. “Nagkakaroonng rason to celebrate a special day an ordinary day in both our lives. Actually masaya siya kung may pagkakataon na pareho kaming walang trabaho,” said LLOYDY.

The dramatic actor also explained that he and Shaina will stand by their stance that they would rather not work together for a project just because they are a couple. “Hindi naman talaga kami well-motivated para sa isang bagay, not just for the sake of doing something because you’re an item now,” he pointed out. “Eh, ayaw naming sumunod sa ganon. Kumbaga may kanya-kanya kaming ginagawa prior to our relationship and we’d like to keep it that way.”

No new movie for JOHN LLOYD, Sarah?

MANILA, Philippines – “It” actor JOHN LLOYD Cruz is wary of doing another movie with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo as fans might not warm up to the box-office tandem because of his new relationship.

"Without the fans, wala din naman kami. Pero malaking part din naman ng naging success ng mga projects ko is material-driven. Talaga namang maganda ‘yong pagkakagawa ng storya," he told “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”

Before admitting his relationship with actress Shaina Magdayao, Cruz had been the talk of the town for keeping a secret affair with beauty queen host Ruffa Gutierrez. Cruz recently admitted that he had a “very special relationship” with Gutierrez.

Also, the actor neither admitted nor denied reports that Geronimo backed out of another on-screen love team purportedly because of his relationship with Magdayao.

"Syempre hindi natin pwedeng iwan ang isang bagay kung merong ibang involved doon sa project. Kung ganoon, I think isang bagay siya na dapat i-take into consideration. Kasi ako naniniwala ako sa energy..." Cruz said.

The Box Office King and Queen starred in 2 movies under Star Cinema. “You Changed My Life” and its sequel, “A Very Special Love,” were both box-office hits when they were released.

Cruz was also all smiles when Geronimo noted that the last 2 projects were memorable for the pop star princess.

"Kung tutuusin, ‘yon ang mga hindi ko makakalimutan sa career. Malalim, malaki, at napaka-special ng ibig sabihin [ng mga movies sa akin] so I'm really happy na meron siyang nasabing ganoon," he said, smiling.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz is set to do his new movie with Toni Gonzaga

When ABS-CBN.com caught up with JOHN LLOYD Cruz right after his meeting with Star Cinema last Thursday, August 5, he revealed that he will be doing a movie with Toni Gonzaga very soon. "Gagawa po ako ng movie with Toni Gonzaga," JOHN LLOYD enthusiastically shared.

JOHN LLOYD was happy that he was able to sit down with the Star Cinema creative team in the pre-production process. "Minsan kasi nagagawa ko ito depende kapag nai-invite ako kagaya nito na-invite ako ni Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina na sumama sa brainstorming. Ine-explore namin yung direction—yung pinanggalingan tsaka pupuntahan nung character. Madalas siyempre yung participation ko sa brainstorming mas dun sa character na gagampanan ko."

Since it is his first project with Toni, JOHN LLOYD is looking forward to making new discoveries about his co-star. “I am very excited to work with her and makita kung ano yung madi-discover namin sa isa't-isa sa loob ng project na ito. Kasi ang ganda-ganda ng kwento. Rom-com (romantic comedy) siya.” JOHN LLOYD also showed ABS-CBN.co the My Only U DVD he was planning to watch so he could get a grasp of Toni's style of acting. "Ito hawak ko ngayon papanoorin ko yung movie ni Toni and Vhong Navarro, My Only U."

JOHN LLOYD said that they are eyeing to shoot this month of August. "Hopefully, makapag-start na kami itong month na ito."
