Vilma at JOHN LLOYD, waging-wagi sa Star Awards!

SINA Vilma Santos at JOHN LLOYD Cruz ang nanalong best actress at best actor sa 26th Star Awards for Movies na ginanap sa Henry Lee Irwin Theater noong Sabado nang gabi. Nanalo ang dalawa para sa mga performance nila sa pelikulang In My Life ng Star Cinema.

Hindi nakarating si Vilma sa awards night kaya ang anak niya na si Luis Manzano ang tumanggap ng kanyang acting award. No-show din si JOHN LLOYD dahil mataas ang lagnat nito.

Gaya ng kanyang ina, nanalo rin si Luis dahil ito ang tumanggap ng best supporting actor award para sa role niya bilang gay lover ni JOHN LLOYD sa In My Life. Best supporting actress winner si Gloria Diaz dahil sa powerful performance nito sa Sagrada Familia.

Naghakot ng kara­ngalan ang Star Cinema dahil best picture winner ang In My Life at best director awardee si Olive Lamasan.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz explains no-show at Star Awards for Movies

Isa si JOHN LLOYD Cruz sa mga celebrity na maagang dumating para suportahan ang proyektong Stars for a Cause ng Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) last Saturday, May 29, sa Entertainment Plaza ng SM City North EDSA.

Kabilang ang PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa mga nag-interview sa aktor bago siya tawagin sa stage upang bumati at magpasalamat sa mga taong dumagsa sa naturang venue.

Sa aming interview with JOHN LLOYD, nabanggit niya ang kahalagahan ng okasyon, bilang proyektong laan sa kapakanang pang-kalusugan (health care) ng mga manunulat na kabilang sa naturang club.

Malaon na raw nakapangako si JOHN LLOYD na tutulong sa pet project na ito ng PMPC, sa ilalim ng bagong pamunuan ng pangulo nito na si Melba Llanera.

"Nandito ako ngayon, kasi naniniwala ako sa adhikain nitong event that you are doing. Siyempre, yung kagustuhan ko na makabawi... Hindi ko alam kung yun ang tamang term, e, dahil hindi ko din naman ginusto na sumama ang pakiramdam ko [at] hindi makapunta sa event ninyo. Pero ito, kumbaga, wala itong kinalaman sa awards night noon," sabi ni JOHN LLOYD, bilang paglilinaw sa naging problema ng hindi niya pag-attend sa ginanap na Star Awards for Movies noong April 24, kung saan siya ang nagwaging Best Actor para sa In My Life.

Malakas ang naging usap-usapan noon na "umiwas" si JOHN LLOYD na magkita sila ni Ruffa Gutierrez, isa sa co-hosts ng ginanap na awards ceremonies. Pero ani JOHN LLOYD, hindi ang pagtutuwid niyon ang layon niya sa pag-attend sa affair ng club.

"Actually, hindi naman," wika niya. "More than the pagbawi, or more than dun sa gusto kong mabura yung mga naging haka-haka or usap-usapan nung awards night is...nandito ako dahil umoo ako na tutulong. Yun ang primary intention."

Ang concern ni JOHN LLOYD ay ipinarating din niya sa iba pang kasamahan sa hanapbuhay.

"Sabi ko nga, kung artista ka at puwede kang pumunta ngayon dito, sana pumunta ka. Kasi napakaganda ng cause nitong event na ito, e. Nakakatuwa na merong naisip na ganito, kasi ang pinag-uusapan dito ay health care. Malaking bagay ito at seryosong bagay," pagtukoy ni JOHN LLOYD.

BEST ACTOR. Sa program proper ay buong-lugod na bumati si JOHN LLOYD sa mga fans na labis na natuwang makita siya. Ito na rin ang naging daan ng PMPC para pormal na ipagkaloob kay Lloydie ang kanyang Best Actor trophy.

"Natutuwa ako na nabigyan ng pansin, na nagkaroon tayo ng rekognisyon para sa mga pinaghirapan natin sa pelikulang In My Life," sabi ng aktor. "Nakakatuwa na hindi napalampas, or hindi lumampas lang, na hindi napansin yung mga pinaghirapan namin.

"Of course, sa aming mga artista, hindi man awards ang basehan namin ng hard work, o ng dedication, napakalaking bagay na mabigyan ka rin ng parangal, na ma-recognize ka sa trabaho mo. Nakakaganang magtrabaho pa."

Pero nakakahinayang din nga na wala si JOHN LLOYD at that very moment, na tinawag ang pangalan niya bilang panalong aktor. At nagsanga pa 'yon sa hindi pagkakaunawaan between some key members of the press na associated sa club at sa aktor mismo.

"NO-SHOW." Once and for all, here's JOHN LLOYD's statement on his "no-show" at the 26h PMPC Star Awards for Movies, held last April 24 at the Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo de Manila University:

"I don't wanna miss that night. Kaya lang, baka maisakripisyo yung ASAP the next day. I wasn't really feeling well that night. Kung kaya naman talaga, I would have attended... So, sana talaga, mabura na rin... Sana this day, mabura na rin yung mga haka-haka, yung mga usap-usapan nung gabing 'yon," hiling pa ni JOHN LLOYD.

Marami rin ang nag-usisa sa aktor ng tungkol sa kanila ng napapabalitang girlfriend niyang si Shaina Magdayao. Pero hindi pa raw handa si JOHN LLOYD that same afternoon na magsalita sa press ng tungkol sa kanyang mga personal concerns.

PEP, however, was able to take note of two very short statements from JOHN LLOYD, about him and Shaina.

"Darating po kami dun... Okey naman kami [ni Shaina]," sabi niya.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz appealed to members of the press to give him time before he can freely speak about his rumored relationship with Shaina Magdayao. At the Stars For A Cause campaign last Saturday at SM North EDSA, the actor assured press people that he would address the issue at the right time. “Darating din tayo d’yan. We’re giving it time, so again, ang mga bagay na ito pinag-uusapan naming dalawa, kasi kaming dalawa ang involved dito. So given the right time makakapagbigay kami ng sagot sa inyo,” he said.

The actor never lost his cool even when some persistent reporters kept on pushing the issue. “Alam ko naman kung ano ang gusto n’yong puntahan sa mga tanong [n’yo]. I don’t take it against you,” JOHN LLOYD said, adding that he knows that they are just doing their job.

“Talagang sabi ko nga, ‘pag nabigyan kami ng tamang pagkakataon at ‘pag naramdaman na namin na ito ‘yung tamang pagkakataon para magsalita or magbigay ng sagot sa katanungan ng karamihan, darating tayo dyan,” he said patiently.

JOHN LLOYD then gave a hint that there is some truth to the issue when he referred to the pictures of him and Shaina together at different occasions circulating on the Internet. “Hindi kami nagtatago. Wala kaming itinatago. There are pictures… and pictures don’t lie. Wala kaming dini-deny wala kaming itinatago pero darating tayo sa punto kung kelan namin gustong sabihin or ‘pag naramdaman na namin kung anong dapat sabihin o dapat sagutin.”

With the issue hounding him everywhere he goes, the actor said that he will deal with the unwanted attention with respect and understanding since he knows he has no power over other people’s opinions. “Of course may mga tao na hindi mawawalan ng opinyon. Kailangan mo lang silang hayaan, hayaan mo lang sila kasi ‘yun ang nature ng business namin, eh,” he reasoned. “’Yun ang nature ng business na ito. Kapag pumatol ka sa mga taong nagsasabi o nagbibigay ng judgment kahit hindi pa man nalalaman ‘yung totoo or ‘yung parehong side of the story, mas lalala kapag pumatol ka.”

JOHN LLOYD Cruz is consistent in keeping his lips sealed about his rumored relationship with young actress Shaina Magdayao.

The rumor got stronger after a photograph of them together at a party was published in a tabloid recently.

However, instead of explaining the photo, JOHN LLOYD just kept mum and asked again the media to give him and Shaina more time before they give a direct answer about the rumor.

"Ang sinasabi ko lang about this matter is that darating tayo sa punto na... Siyempre, hindi lang naman ako ang involved dito. As much as I'd like to give you a straight and complete answer, parang I don't really think it's the right time already. So, give us a little more time. Darating din tayo diyan," said JOHN LLOYD in an interview at the press conference of his Jack n' Jill Magic endorsement earlier this afternoon, May 24, at Bar One in Holiday Inn, Ortigas, Pasig City.

The 26-year-old actor also mentioned in an interview with SNN, which was aired last night, May 31, that he and Shaina are both open to the public.

He added, "There are pictures and pictures don't lie. Wala kaming dine-deny, wala kaming tinatago. Pero darating kami sa punto kung kailan namin gustong sabihin or kapag naramdaman na namin kung ano ba talaga ang dapat sabihin or dapat sagutin sa bawat tanong ng karamihan."

Although the press has been nagging him about this issue, JOHN LLOYD just keeps his cool and tells himself that it's part of being a celebrity.

"'Yon ang nature ng trabaho namin, e," he said. "We really understand 'yong laging pagtatanong, 'yong halos pilitin na kaming magsalita. We totally understand kasi alam na namin ang pinasok namin, 'tong trabahong ito, 'tong business na 'to. It deals with mga ganyan, invasion of privacy. So naiintindihan namin, wala kaming problema doon."

In a separate interview, JOHN LLOYD reiterated to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Basta 'yon talaga sa akin, given the right timing, the right moment, mutual sa aming dalawa, nagkakaintindihan kami, I'm sure we'll get there. Ayaw ko kasi ng, unang-una, I feel obliged na you have to come up with an answer now para matigil na, matahimik na para once and for all meron nang sagot.

"Madali naman 'yon. Pero sa akin naman, kung ibibigay ko ito sa mga taong nag-aabang, parang I'd like to do it in the right timing. 'Yong mas maluwag, alam mo 'yon, hindi pilit. Alam mo, e, mararamdaman mo rin 'yon."

After Robin Padilla, more big names are popping up as guest hosts of top noontime show Wowowee. For this week, ASAP XV’s Kanto Boys take the reins and Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford and JOHN LLOYD Cruz are very happy for the opportunity to make Kapamilyas smile.

During a recent SNN interview with JOHN LLOYD, he expressed his gratefulness to be given a rare chance like this. “Sabi ko nga nakakatuwa na mabigyan kami ng pagkakataon doon sa…nahighlight na ito ni Kuya Robin, Sinimulan ni Kuya Willie (Revillame) yung pagtulong at pag-entertain sa Kapamilya natin every tanghali sa ABS-CBN.”

On the other hand, even though the Kanto Boys may be lacking one member (Showtime host Vhong Navarro), JOHN LLOYD insists that everyone will be enjoying every afternoon with him, Billy and Luis. “Kaisa kami sa intensyon nila na makapagpasaya, magbigay ligaya, ilang oras sa isang araw.” When asked if they feel pressure to live up to Robin Padilla’s standards the previous, the actor just said they will be doing their best each time they go on the show. “Hindi naman yun ang importante. Kasi ang dahilan namin (kung bakit kami) dun, para makatulong sa show at magbigay saya."

JOHN LLOYD Cruz on the Shaina Magdayao-Bea Alonzo rift: ‘Medyo malalim yung issue nila’

At a press con for his endorsement for Jack n’ Jill Magic at Holiday Inn last June 1, JOHN LLOYD Cruz was quick to clarify that he’s not the reason behind the alleged rift between his rumored sweetheart Shaina Magdayao and former leading lady Bea Alonzo who are best friends. But he seemed to be privy to the details about the whole conflict as he stated his reaction to the local press. “Alam mo, medyo malalalim kasi ‘yang issue na ‘yan. [Pero] isa lang masasabi ko, alam ng lahat ng parties involved—alam ni Bea, alam ni Shaina, alam ng ilang fans nila—kung anong totoong story. And wala po akong kinalaman sa dati pa nilang [naging problema], nagkaroon yata sila ng ‘di pagkakaintidihan, which is common sa mga magkakaibigan. So yun lang ang masasabi ko. Wala akong kinalaman dun,” he reiterated.

As much as he wanted to avoid questions pertaining to his much-speculated romance with Shaina, the controversial actor admitted that he understands why a lot of people are curious to know the real score between them. “Actually, ang mas nakakasama ng loob kapag nanggagaling dun sa mga halos kaibigan mo [yung unfair accusations tungkol sa personal kong buhay]. Hindi naman sa napre-pressure ako [magsalita tungkol sa issue]. We really understand yung laging pagtatanong, yung halos pilitin na kami magsalita, kasi alam namin kung anong pinasok naming trabaho. Talagang it deals with yung mga ganyan, kahit na tinatawag natin na invasion of privacy, naiintindihan namin so wala kaming problema dun.”

But when asked if Shaina’s the one who brings the “magic” into his life right now, JOHN LLOYD simply said that it’s impossible for him to be inspired by just one particular person alone. “Aside from my family and friends, you know, ang number one source ng magic in my life is the inspiration that I have in my heart and in my life. Sabi ko nga, kapag ili-list down ko ang priorities ko, of course nasa top yung family ko, yung career ko. Ano ba ang mag-fuel up para may mai-deliver ka [sa trabaho]? Of course it’s the inspiration. Kung saan nanggagaling? Iba-iba—from the family, the artistry, the passion, and all the beautiful ladies [out there],” he remarked.

Despite much prodding from the press, JOHN LLOYD refused to confirm whether he and Shaina are in a relationship or exclusively dating at the very least. “Ayoko na rin magsalita like totally. Ang gusto ko when the right time comes talagang makakapagbigay kami once and for all ng straight and complete and direct to the point answer, so give us time.” Since he claimed he has beeen single for quite some time already, is he ready to have a girlfriend again anytime soon? “You’ll know when I’m ready. Siyempre ang mga manifestations niyan, one, kapag tinanong ka [wala ng paligoy-ligoy pa]. Timing lang talaga lahat e. Timing is everything.”

In the meantime, JOHN LLOYD feels really blessed now that he was formally launched as the newest endorser of Jack n’ Jill Magic’s extensive line of products under Universal Robina Corporation. “Nakakatuwa kasi after ng Choco Lava, yung dati kong endorsement under the same company na medyo hindi nakapag-renew, napalitan ngayon ng Jack ‘N Jill Magic. At first medyo hesistant ako kasi hindi pa ako gaano ka-familiar sa Magic. And then nung in-introduce sa akin yung products, noon lang ako nakakakita ng napakadaming variants ng isang brand and I tried almost everything. Feeling ko with this new endorsement, talagang nandun yung confidence and it’s gonna be exciting kasi napaka-dynamic ng brand,” he beamed.

MANILA, Philippines - Hunk actor JOHN LLOYD Cruz said it is not yet time to address the rumors romantically linking him to actress Shaina Magdayao.

“Darating din tayo d’yan. We’re giving it time. So again, ang mga bagay na ito pinag-uusapan naming dalawa, kasi kaming dalawa ang involved dito. So given the right time makakapagbigay kami ng sagot sa inyo,” he said.

He added: “Talagang sabi ko nga kapag nabigyan kami ng tamang pagkakataon at kapag naramdaman na namin na ito ‘yong tamang pagkakataon para magsalita or magbigay ng sagot sa katanungan ng karamihan, darating tayo dyan.”

Cruz did not deny though that his relationship with the actress is getting deeper.

"Talagang kung sa pagkakakilala lang namin sa isa't isa definitely mas lumalalim talaga, nasa ganoong level na siya. At ibang depth mayroon na ang relationship namin. That's all I can say,” he said.

The 2 have been rumored to be dating after photos of them together were published in a tabloid newspaper. In one of the photos, Cruz had his arm wrapped around the actress's shoulder.

Rumor also has it that Magdayao ended her relationship with actor John Prats because of Cruz.

JOHN LLOYD Cruz reacts to negative comments about the hosting job of Kanto Boys in Wowowee

JOHN LLOYD Cruz regrets not being able to host Wowowee with fellow Kanto Boys—Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford—this week. This is because he'll be busy with prior commitments including taping for his upcoming teleserye with Angel Locsin, Imortal.

"Sabi ko nga noong Saturday, in an interview, sabi ko, 'Kapag puwede tayo, kahit sino sa aming tatlo, talagang magre-report.' Kaya lang, na-try naman namin na ayusin 'yong schedule ko in a way na ma-accommodate naman ang hosting job sa Wowowee. Pero talagang... Kagaya today, nandito na, e. Mahirap kasi iusog lahat," the Kapamilya actor explained at the media conference of his Jack n' Jill Magic endorsement yesterday, June 2.

Recalling the days when he temporarily took over the job of Willie Revillame in hosting Wowowee, JOHN LLOYD said he had fun giving noontime entertainment.

"Kumbaga, parang kaharap mo talaga ang audience mo and ramdam na ramdam mo talaga, napaka-first hand noong reaksiyon. Masaya siya, e. Kaya nga sa kagustuhan namin, ako rin personally, na kung ano 'yong sinimulan ni Kuya Willie [maituloy namin]. Ang intensiyon lang naman niya is makapagpasaya, makapagbigay ng konting suwerte, at konting kabuhayan para sa mga less fortunate nating mga Kapamilya," said JOHN LLOYD.

ON KEEPING UP WITH ROBIN. JOHN LLOYD, Luis, and Billy replaced Robin Padilla, who hosted Wowowee for two weeks. Its principal host, Willie Revillame, took an indefinite leave after a misunderstanding with radio commentator Jobert Sucaldito.

During Robin's stint in Wowowee, the program did very well in the ratings. As a result of this, there was a very strong clamor for him to extend his stay on the show. However, he declined the offer.

Can Kanto Boys pull off the same job as what Robin did in Wowowee?

JOHN LLOYD answered, "Noong tinanggap namin 'yon, hindi para lagpasan kung ano ang na-maintain ni Kuya Binoe. Paano mo naman masusundan ang ganun ka-impressive na trabaho? Si Kuya Binoe, di ba, talagang tumayo lang si Kuya Binoe, madami nang nae-entertain in many ways, di ba? Mahirap sundan 'yon.

"Pero sabi ko nga, kung ang susundan mo ay ang intensiyon na makatulong at maka-entertain, kumbaga 'yong core intention ng show, e, wala ka siguro dapat ipag-alala. Kung hindi mo man ma-maintain kung ano ang pina-prioritize nila, ratings ba o kung anuman, kumbaga, hindi mo naman siguro kawalan 'yon. Kahit sino ang ilagay mo diyan, gagawin ang dapat gawin, gagawin hanggang sa makakaya niya. Basta 'yon lang, mag-internalize lang siya sa intention at sa objective ng show."

The actor also reacted to comments that the Kanto Boys could not bring a good show like what Robin did.

"Siyempre ang lahat, may kanya-kanya tayong opinyon," said JOHN LLOYD. "Nagkakaroon kasi ng point of comparison. Sino ba naman kami para ikumpara sa nagawa ni Kuya Willie or ni Kuya Binoe?

"Medyo hindi naman talaga kami aabot doon. Kumbaga kami, tinanong kami kung puwede kaming sumalo muna pansamantala. Kami naman, sa kagustuhan lang naming makatulong or sa kagustuhan namin na medyo makapag-ease ng konting burden sa staff nila or sa management ng ABS-CBN dahil nga walang makuha noon, so pumayag kami.

"Ang dala-dala lang namin papuntang studio ay 'yong intensiyon na makabawas sa problema at makapag-entertain doon sa live audience at sa mga nanonood sa Wowowee every day. I guess, kung hindi nagustuhan, wala naman na kaming magagawa roon."

On the other hand, JOHN LLOYD thanked the action superstar for defending the Kanto Boys against negative comments.

He said, "Malaking bagay para sa amin 'yon. Kumbaga kasi, medyo mabigat 'yong trabaho na 'yan. Hindi 'yan trabaho na basta-basta o-oo ka na [maging] isang artista. Lalo na noong after ng pagsalo ni Kuya Robin, talagang parang pakiramdam ko, lahat mas tumutok sa show. E, para sa mga [tao] na may hindi gaanong favorable na opinion sa amin, about doing the show, sinubukan naman po namin.

"Gusto ko lang magpasalamat kay Kuya Binoe dahil kahit na medyo nag-fail tayo sa pagme-maintain ng iniwan niya, kumbaga, mayroon siyang mga magagandang nasasabi tungkol doon sa mga nagko-comment sa amin."

JOHN LLOYD Cruz not yet ready to admit relationship with Shaina Magdayao

Even with photos of them together surfacing recently, actor JOHN LLOYD Cruz seems unprepared to admit his relationship with young actress Shaina Magdayao.

When cornered recently, JOHN LLOYD evaded giving direct answers that will confirm specualtions about him and Vina Morales’ younger sister.

“We’re giving it time. So, again, parang kami,” JOHN LLOYD quipped in a taped interview aired May 31 on “Showbiz News Ngayon.”

The actor is cautious about giving details on the matter because "itong mga bagay na ito pinag-uusapan naming dalawa dahil kaming dalawa ang involved dito.

"So, given the right time, makakapagbigay kami ng sagot about it.”

However, the Box Office King admitted their relationship has deepened.

“Talagang kung sa pagkakakilala namin sa isa’t isa, definitely mas lumalim talaga. Nasa ganoong level na siya. That’s all I can say,” he said.

The rumored couple were photographed on two different occasions. One photo is of JOHN LLOYD and Shaina together inside a bicycle store. Another shows them together at a birthday party of an ABS-CBN executive with JOHN LLOYD’s hands on Shaina’s shoulders.

Still, the actor won't say categorically that they are sweethearts.

“There are pictures and pictures don’t lie, ‘di ba? Wala kaming dinedenay, wala kaming tinatago. Pero darating tayo sa puntong kung kailan namin gustong sabihin or pagka naramdaman na namin kung ano ba talaga ang dapat sabihin or dapat sagutin sa mga tanong ng karamihan,” the actor said.

This is true with the heightening issue pertaining to the supposed romance between JOHN LLOYD Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

After a photo of them together in a bike shop had made it in tabloids a few months ago, out comes another photo showing JOHN LLOYD and Shaina together at a party with the former embracing the latter, “Showbiz News Ngayon” reported.

Though the picture is almost a seeming confirmation of what everybody has been speculating all along, JOHN LLOYD still remains adamant in keeping mum on the real status of his relationship with Shaina.

“We’re giving it time. Parang kami… dapat pinag-uusapan muna namin kasi kaming dalawa yung involved dito eh. Given the right time, makakapagbigay din kami ng sagot,” said he in the same episode of SNN.

On his still-undefined relationship with the young actress, JOHN LLOYD simply said, “mas lumalim [yung relationship namin], ganung level. Ibang depth na ang relationship namin.”

Clearing out the issue that they’ve been hiding their relationship, JOHN LLOYD reiterated, “Hindi kami nagtatago. Wala kaming tinatago. Wala kaming dine-deny. Pictures don’t lie… Kapag naramdaman na namin na gusto na naming sagutin at meron na kaming isasagot sa mga tanong ninyo, we’ll give time.”

JOHN LLOYD has an upcoming teleserye “Imortal,” which pairs him for the first time with Angel Locsin. He is also currently one of “Wowowee’s” temporary hosts.
