MANILA STANDARD TODAY By Rowell B. Capuz Sept. 24, 2005.
JOHN LLOYD Cruz: From teleserye prince to promising movie actor
We have seen him in sitcoms, teen romance movies, weekly series, and teleseryes in the past. Now JOHN LLOYD Cruz has come of age and is ready to take on a more challenging role both on TV and in the movies.
From Palibhasa Lalake, Tabing Ilog, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, and Ikaw Ang Lahat sa Akin to It Might Be You and Now That I Have You, there’s no doubt that this young actor has already carved his niche in show business. He never thought that he will become a big star at 23—he even won an acting award for his role in Tabing Ilog.
A bankable star, he is also a commercial endorser for quite a number of products ranging from bags, whitening soap, shoes, cologne, and apparel.
But for him, this is just the beginning. He continues to challenge himself, taking every role with a different perspective. He always tries to make a difference in everything he does—in movies or in real life. JOHN LLOYD is just thankful for all the opportunities that have come his way.
It’s my life
“The hardest part of being a movie and a soap actor is losing my privacy. I am a very private person, especially when it comes to my personal life. Plus, I have no time for myself anymore,” reveals JOHN LLOYD. A typical day for this actor would be taping for the soap opera, shooting for a movie, and pictorials. He has been very busy these past few months.
In Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, he successfully portrayed a lawyer who is way older than his real age. “I am very fortunate to have very good directors who teach and motivate me,” he quips. It’s also in this top-rating teleserye where his winning love team with Bea Alonzo started.
“She is very professional...very sweet,” intimates JOHN LLOYD. He says that their love team will not be affected even if they venture into movies or projects with a different screen partner. Bea was once paired with Piolo Pascual in Dreamboy and he, on the other hand, will star in Dubai opposite screen veterans Aga Muhlach and Claudine Barretto.
JOHN LLOYD wants to star in a movie where he can play a dark character. And he admits that he would also like to work with Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos in future projects.
Having made a name in an industry in which aspiring actors are dime a dozen, JOHN LLOYD says that the secret to his success is hard work.
“I have no regrets in life. I am very thankful for everything that God has and is still giving me,” shares the young actor.
A more challenging role
In Dubai, his first big movie for the year, JOHN LLOYD takes his acting to serious heights. The movie pulls him away from the love team circuit, and gives him an opportunity to show a new dimension in the acting department.
“It’s scary when you get roles like the one in Dubai because it was my first time to work with director Rory Quintos, Aga, and Claudine,” he confesses. When asked what was it like to work with his co-actors in the movie, he says, “I was and still in awe. But, Claudine and Aga are both very maalaga.”
The story revolves around two brothers who work as OFW in Dubai. But as soon as they fall in love with the same woman, the bond between them will be put to the test. JOHN LLOYD plays younger brother to Aga, the man he wishes to follow and who gives him the drive to make their dreams fulfilled. Claudine completes the love triangle.
JOHN LLOYD says that in Dubai, his working relationship with Aga was great during the shooting period. “Aga and I met before,” tells JOHN LLOYD. He and Claudine were supportive in our scenes,” he says.
One thing that makes JOHN LLOYD a very good actor is his forethought about how his performance will fare to his co-stars. And this inspires him to show his maturity for the role. “I’m sure a lot is expected from me by my co-actors. I also asked help from them because I want to deliver. We simply trust one another,” explains JOHN LLOYD. “I want to be sure I will always give my best in every scene here.”
Future projects are still in the can (although he says that nothing is concrete at this point). Still everything is going perfectly well for this promising actor.
Dubai will be shown on Sept. 28.

E-TALK Beth Gelena People's Tonight
"But if I had a chance at wala pang boyfriend si Claudine, malamang na ma-in love ako sa kanya.
Aniya: "I'll keep my fingers crossed. Sana hindi mabulilyaso. I love to work with Ate Vi. Ibang klase kasi kapag ang Star For All Season, mayora pa ng Lipa City at respected actress, huh! Heaven."
"Of course not. Bea is so special to me. So nakaka-frustrate, di ba? I want to be her side kasi on that day.
"First time kong nakatrabaho sina Aga at Claudine. Grabe ang dalawang ito na ka-trabaho. Very supportive sila. We've met before, pero hanggang doon lang. He was supportive in our scenes," pagmamalaki ni JOHN LLOYD kay Aga.
Ipalalabas na ang Dubai sa Sept. 28. Huhusgahan ng Star Cinema kung mapapakawalan na si JOHN LLOYD as an actor.

TATTLE Nel Alejandrino People's Tonight Sept. 25, 2005.

They went there on the invitation of SM Cebu to promote their movie, Dubai, which opens nationwide on Sept. 28.
He spents the entire trip (for one hour) talking with Victor Tan, owner ng Bobson Garments, which Aga endorses.
Magkaibigan na sina Aga at Victor many years ago.
Success and fame have not changed him. I salute him for that."
According to Victor, when he got JOHN LLOYD and Maja Salvador as the younger endorsers ng Bobson, hindi pumasok sa isipan niyang one day soon ay gagawa ang dalawa ng isang movie. Ito ngang Dubai. Kaya nga daw, he feels so happy for both of them. And on his part, happy siya dahil, kung baga sa movie, nagkaroon siya ng puwedeng ituring na casting coup.

When JOHN LLOYD arrived at the airport, he came straight from his taping for Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin. He slept all throughout the trip. He didn't bother to even taste the meal served to him by a stewardess. That was on time, John later told us, when he would rather sleep than eat.
Since they had time to rest, both Aga and John slept in rooms assigned to them respectively sa Waterfront Hotel. Kaya, they both looked fresh and on the go when they met members of the press at a mini presscon organized for them by the Waterfront Hotel management.
The Cebu press appeared to have done their homework bago humarap kina Aga at JOHN LLOYD. They knew what questions to ask them. Mostly about Dubai and their experiences while shooting Dubai.
Pokwang shed a tear when member of the press asked her why she could relate to our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers), as Dubai story ay tungkol sa mga kababayan nating nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa.

The trio's performance sa SM Cebu Entertainment Hall was both a riot and fun.
Pandemonium almost broke loose when Aga joined JOHN LLOYD onstage and they sung Alapaap and even danced to its tune.
Tama si John, in Aga he has found a new ka-love team. "He is the best," he said of Aga.

BASTA Nitz Miralles People's Tonight
JOHN LLOYD can't help talking about their kissing scene in Dubai.
