SAM MILBY - Sam Milby, in his first foray into movie acting, get high profile from his director. "He can act - definitely he can," Direk Cathy says. What she like most about Sam is his childlike attitude "masaya, parang bata."

BEA ALONZO - Bea Alonzo's character, says Direk Cathy, is a "sweet and funny twenty-something events organizer who also owns a flower shop."

JOHN LLOYD CRUZ - JOHN LLOYD Cruz plays Bea's perpetually available best friend, who works as a videographer.


Star Cinema's Valentine offering Close To You, brings back the love team of Bea Alonzo and JOHN LLOYD Cruz, then throws in Pinoy Big Brother heartthrob Sam Milby to spice things up.

Direct Cathy Garcia-Molina describes the film as a "love triangle rotted in the past." As kids, Bea and Sam have a case of puppy love, but when Sam and his family migrate to the United States, JOHN LLOYD becomes Bea's loyal companion. The conflict starts when the three are adults, after Sam invites his two friends to the States.

The movie, partly shot in New York, also stars Reyson Yap and Carine Cabebe, the grand winners of Close-Up to Fame, the model search conducted by Close-Up toothpaste in September 2005.

That's not all. Also appearing in the movie are the winners of Close-Up to Film, the text raffle won by 100 lucky texters--40 from Metro Manila, 30 from Bacolod, 30 from Davao.

All this, Direk Cathy says, makes her job of bringing life to Mel del Rosario's script all the more challenging. "It's challenging to accommodate everyone without compromising the shots, to deal with a hundred non-actors na halo-halo, may matanda, bata."
